AUDITOR'S OFFICE RECEIVES AWARD FOR FINANCIAL REPORTING
OLYMPIA – The Thurston County Auditor's Financial Services Team received their 15th straight Annual Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. The Government Financial Officers Association honored Thurston County for going above and beyond in financial reporting.
"Our culture of financial compliance, controls and reporting is rooted deeply here at Thurston County," said Mary Hall, Thurston County Auditor. The county auditor oversees the financial services division and acts as Chief Financial Officer for the county.
This award follows the county's sixth straight clean annual audit from the State Auditor's Office last year.
Thurston County is one of only a few counties in Washington that goes beyond the state auditor's minimum requirements by producing an Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). The Certificate of Achievement recognizes the ACFR for the 2020 fiscal year, the most recent report available.
"Even as we rode the choppy financial waters of the pandemic, the county's financial team did not lose focus. We kept our eyes on the importance of financial reporting," Hall said. "I could not be prouder of our work."
Each ACFR covers a fiscal year (January 1 through December 31). Financial staff are currently assembling the ACFR covering the 2021 fiscal year. ACFRs from previous years are available on the Auditor's Financial Reports webpage.
The Auditor's Financial Services team provides direct financial services and guidance to Thurston County offices and departments in the areas of accounting, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, financial reporting, and grants management.
