Board of County Commissioners to Hold Three Public Hearings on Amendments to Special Use Regulations

OLYMPIA – The Board of County Commissioners will hold three public hearings on Tuesday, March 16, at 3:00 p.m., or soon thereafter, in Room 280, Building 1 of the Thurston County Courthouse, 2000 Lakeridge Dr. SW in Olympia, to accept public comment on three docket items in the 2020-2021 Official Development Code Docket. The items are: A-20 "Permitted Childcare Centers," CR-1 "Resorts & Retreats Code Amendment," and CR-4 "Commercial Smokehouse Code Amendment."
The public's ability to attend the public hearings in person is limited to 25%, or 10 people, in room 280. An overflow room is available for additional people, and a video conference option is also available to ensure those wishing to provide testimony have every option available. The proposed amendments include changes to the Special Use Permit, Chapter 20.54 of the Thurston County Code (TCC). If approved, the amendments would change existing regulations for day-care centers and family day care providers, create two subsections and incorporate new standards for resort and retreat facilities over 100 acres, and incorporate new development standards for commercial smokehouses. The proposed amendments also incorporate new definitions for commercial smokehouses in 20.03 of the TCC.
