OLYMPIA – Thurston County will celebrate its 170th birthday on Saturday, October 8, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Heritage Hall, located at the Thurston County Fairgrounds. The celebration, known as Heritage Day, is hosted by Thurston County’s Historic Commission.

The community is invited to join the Thurston County Historic Commission’s third annual Heritage Day event, a celebration of the place county resident’s call home. 

Activities include: 

  • Cake & soft drinks.
  • Presentation about the new self-guided walking tour the “Walls Tell Stories,” and sandstone monument at the Brewery Park.
  • A sneak peek at the upcoming play, “The Hotel Olympian 100th Anniversary Grand Extravaganza.” 
  • Watch the presentation of the annual Heritage Grant Award.
  • Discover how Heritage Grant Program recipients plan to use their funding from Thurston County for Historic Preservation. Recipients include The Northwest Institute for Leadership and Change, The Olympia Historical Society and Bigelow House Museum, the City of Lacey, Olympia Tumwater Foundation, and others.
