Increased Outreach Efforts and Emergency Shelter Beds Offered Thursday, January 11 through Monday, January 15 for Hazardous Weather Event
Upcoming snow and extreme cold temperatures are dangerous for those without shelter. The National Weather Service has issued a forecast for snow and below freezing nighttime weather patterns in the Puget Sound from Thursday, January 11 to the morning of Tuesday, January 16, 2024. In response, Thurston County Public Health and Social Services is issuing a “Hazardous Weather” advisory to increase shelter-in-place efforts and offer extended nightly shelter beds starting on Thursday, January 11, nightly from 8:00 p.m. through 8:00 a.m. The advisory ends on Tuesday, January 16 at 8:00 a.m.
• Overnight Emergency Shelter at Sergio’s Place: Available for unsheltered adults over age 18 at Sergio’s Place Thursday, January 11 through Monday, January 15, 2024, overnight from 8:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. Shelter guest entrance for Sergio’s Place is located at 3444 Martin Way NE. • Families with children under age 18: Nightly shelter available at Pear Blossom Place, 837 7th Ave. SE Olympia, 98501. Ring doorbell for entrance.
• Youth and young adults, ages 24 and under: Nightly shelter available at Rosie’s Place, 520 Pear St. SE Olympia, WA 98501. Call to sign up on weekdays starting at 9:00 a.m. (360) 918-7879. Open nightly 9:00 p.m. – 9:00 a.m.
• Increased Shelter-in-Place Activities: Olympia Mutual Aid Partners will increase distribution of survival supplies to individuals and families living outside.
Cold Weather Donations Needed
Donations accepted only on Wednesday, January 10 through Saturday, January 13, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at 3501 Mary Elder Rd NE (Sergio’s Place donation collection entrance). No parking on Martin Way.
Items needed: blankets, twin/single bed sheets, ramen, non-perishable snacks, instant coffee, creamer, hot tea, hot chocolate, disposable cups and utensils, socks, long johns, underwear, tarps, ponchos, hand warmers, sleeping bags, tents, gloves/mittens, hats, and warm clothing. Additional donation drop-off times are Sergio's usual business hours of Tuesday - Friday 1:00-6:00 p.m. weekly. For more information, please contact 360-706-2287.
