​OLYMPIA – The Thurston County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, October 6, at 7 p.m. to accept public comment on the Up Castle Land Use and Rezone Amendment, a citizen-requested amendment to the Thurston County Comprehensive Plan. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the public hearing will be held via video conference. Meeting information will be posted on the Planning Commission webpage the week before the public hearing. Citizens must register in advance to participate.

Background:

The proposed amendments would change the land use and associated zoning of two parcels - totaling 33.11± acres - from the Rural Residential/Resource designation to the Rural Resource Industrial District (RRI) designation. An associated code amendment to Title 20.29 "Rural Resource Industrial" is also proposed to expand locational criteria for certain industrial uses and allow for more flexibility of vehicular access from certain road classifications.
