Plastic Foam Recycling Suspended February 28

OLYMPIA – The Thurston County Waste and Recovery Center (WARC) in Lacey is suspending the plastic foam recycling program, effective February 28, 2023. Due to a recent law prohibiting certain types of plastic foam products, the processing facility the WARC uses for this type of recycling will end operations at the end of February.

Thurston County Solid Waste is actively exploring new options for plastic foam recycling. However, until a new vendor is found, residents and businesses must dispose of Styrofoam and other plastic foam products in the garbage.

Thurston County remains committed to continuing plastic foam recycling and will notify residents if a new recycling option becomes available.

For questions, please contact Thurston County Solid Waste at 360-867-2491 or ThurstonSolidWaste@co.thurston.wa.us.
