OLYMPIA – The Thurston County Auditor’s Office intercepted an envelope matching the description of those sent to other county election offices containing suspicious white powder.
The envelope was isolated before it was opened by elections staff. The United States Postal Service provided advanced notice of the envelope’s arrival. County staff immediately turned the envelope over to law enforcement. The envelope did not include a ballot.
Ballot processing and elections results reporting are not impacted.
The Auditor’s Office has also taken precautions to protect employee health and safety during ballot processing. Ballot processing will continue until the election is certified on November 28.
