OLYMPIA The Thurston County Canvassing Board will hold administrative hearings to consider 11 voter registration challenges beginning the week of July 10. Individual hearing times will be listed at ThurstonWAVotes.gov once they are scheduled.

The challenges must be considered by the Canvassing Board before certification of the August 2023 Primary Election because they were received within 45 days of the Primary.

The Canvassing Board is comprised of the county auditor, the county prosecuting attorney, and the chair of the Board of County Commissioners or their designees. In addition to ruling on voter registration challenges, the Canvassing Board also determines the validity of provisional ballots, voter intent and certifies elections.

Several of the challenged voters are inactive. The Auditor’s Office does not mail ballots to inactive voters.

For the active challenged voters, the Auditor’s Election Office will make a notation that their Primary ballots are challenged. If returned, these ballots will not be counted until their voter registrations are resolved by the Canvassing Board.

Documents regarding these challenges are available here: https://www.thurstoncountywa.gov/auditor/Pages/elections-challenges.aspx
