OLYMPIA – The Thurston County Clerk's Office, District Court, Public Defense, Prosecuting Attorney's Office, and Superior Court are hosting a Legal Financial Obligation (LFO) Reconsideration Day on Monday, August 15, 2022 at the Thurston County Courthouse. To register, please visit https://www.thurstoncountywa.gov/pd.
Individuals can appear in-person at the courthouse or virtually via Zoom for this event. Once registered, attorneys will review each individual case to determine eligibility. Those who are eligible will receive an appointment time for the event at least one week prior. During the appointment, individuals will have their LFOs reconsidered by the court. There is no cost to register for the event or participate.
Most individuals who come through the Thurston County criminal court system are below the federal poverty line. Paying fine and fees because of a criminal conviction can cause additional hardship and make reentry into the community more difficult.
Recent changes to Washington's laws have created opportunities for cities and counties to address these challenges. Individuals previously convicted of one or more crimes in Thurston County may be eligible to have their legal financial fines or fees waived or reduced. City of Olympia criminal fines and fees are not eligible for this event.
