Upcoming Traffic Delays Due to Construction on Marvin Road SE from 22 Avenue SE to Union Mills Road SE
Thurston County Public Works is announcing the start of the Marvin Road Corridor Improvement Project, beginning on September 9, 2024. This first phase will focus on the section of Marvin Road SE from 22 Avenue SE to just north of Union Mills Road SE, to enhance safety, improve traffic flow, and prepare for future growth.
Timeline:
Construction is scheduled to begin on September 9, 2024, and will continue through the summer of 2025.
Traffic and Service Impacts:
During construction, alternating one-way traffic control will be in effect. The City of Lacey will notify residents in advance of any temporary water or sewer service interruptions as new mains are installed and connected. Motorists are advised to plan for traffic delays, consider alternate routes, and allow extra travel time.
Major Changes Include:
- Installation of a Roundabout: A new roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of Marvin Road SE and 19th Avenue SE to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.
- Speed Limit Reduction: The speed limit along this section of Marvin Road SE will be reduced to enhance pedestrian safety and decrease traffic accidents.
- Railroad Crossing Removal: The existing railroad crossing south of Union Mills Road SE will be removed to help alleviate traffic jams and improve overall travel efficiency.
- Pedestrian Mobility: New 10-foot-wide, paved, multi-use sidewalks will be constructed on both sides of Marvin Road SE to increase pedestrian mobility and safety.
Thurston County Public Works appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as we make these improvements.
