Threats & Hazards
Thurston County is susceptible to many natural, technological and human-caused hazards. Knowledge of these hazards, their frequency, and our vulnerability to them allows the community to better assess their risk and take action to be better prepared. The Thurston County Hazard Identification and Vulnerability Analysis (HIVA) provides a summary overview of the hazards most likely to affect the region and serves as a basis for emergency planning and preparedness activities. For the most significant natural hazards that threaten the region, Thurston County collaborates with the Thurston Regional Planning Council to conduct hazard risk assessments as part of routine updates to the Hazards Mitigation Plan for the Thurston Region. Understanding what hazards exist, and the risk they pose to you and your community, is the first step in being prepared. |
