Patrol Division
The most noticeable division of the Sheriff’s Office is the Patrol Division, of the Field Operations Bureau, which provides 24/7 uniformed deputy response to emergency and non-emergency situations. Deputies patrol 712 square miles of land, 36 square miles of bodies of water, 2,112 miles of roadway, the City of Rainier, and the Town of Tenino, which is roughly 92% of Thurston County. Since the 2020 census is unavailable, it is estimated the entire county population is 300,000 people, of which 192,000 live in unincorporated Thurston County. The Patrol Division is divided into 5 districts: A-NW, B-NE, C-Central, D-SW, and E-SE, to keep personnel spread throughout the county.
In 2019, the Patrol Division responded to 76,848 calls for service, wrote 6,996 incident reports (not including supplemental reports), and arrested or referred 1164 suspects. In addition, Patrol was dispatched to 1838 vehicle collisions; investigating 991, and 7 fatalities.
