Involuntary Treatment Act (ITA)
The Involuntary Treatment Act (ITA) allows a court to order a person to have mental health treatment or be civilly committed. It is not part of a criminal case. To order treatment or civil commitment, the ITA Judge needs to find that the person poses a threat to themselves or others because of exhibited symptoms of mental illness.
