Supervised Visitation
When judicial officers make decisions about parents contact with their child(ren), they must follow the law. That means they must make decisions (orders) that are in the best interest of the child(ren).
In some cases, the court orders supervised visitation to make sure:
- the children are safe and protected when they are with a parent, or
- the children get contact with both parents.
A provider of supervised visitation may be asked to supervise:
- the visits with the children, and/or
- the “exchange” – when the children move from one parent’s care to the other.
The court may order visits to be supervised by a friend or family member, or in some cases that visits be professionally supervised. If a family member or friend supervises a visit, an Oath of Supervisor form must be completed.
