UPDATE: Recreational Fires No Longer Allowed Thurston County Burn Ban – Countywide Outdoor Burn Ban
This is an update to the Fire Safety Burn Ban. The update is to allow the use of charcoal or charcoal briquettes if use involves a barbeque or other appliances specific for the purpose and occurs over a non-combustible surface like concrete or brick.

CORRECTION: Board of County Commissioners Vote to Include a Public Safety Tax on the Ballot for General Election
On, July 27, 2023, the Thurston County Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) voted to include a resolution on the upcoming general election ballot for a public safety tax resulting in an increase in sales tax of two-tenths of one percent to be dedicated to supporting public safety in the county. The BoCC is looking for individuals interested in writing a ‘con’ statement in opposition of the ballot measure.
CORRECTION: The original release stated the wrong date for submittal. The 'con' statement must be submitted by August 8, 2023 per page 13 of the Thurston County Local Voters’ Pamphlet Administrative Rules for Jurisdictions.

Swimmer's Itch reported at Black Lake
Thurston County Public Health and Social Services advises members of the community that the parasite that causes swimmer’s itch appears to be present in Black Lake. Swimmers at any freshwater lake need to be aware that this parasite may be present and there are ways to avoid being infected by it.
