OLYMPIA – The Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously in support of canceling the 2021 Thurston County Fair this year. The recommendation to cancel the fair came from the Thurston County Fair Board.

Board of Commissioners to Hold Public Hearing on Interim Emergency Housing Ordinance
The Thurston County Board of Commissioners (BoCC) will hold a public hearing at the Thurston County Courthouse, Building 1, Room 280, 2000 Lakeridge Drive SW in Olympia, on Tuesday, May 25, at 3:00 p.m. to receive public testimony on a proposal to renew an interim ordinance for emergency housing. There are no proposed changes to the previously adopted interim emergency housing ordinance.

Thurston County Survey on Agriculture Indicates Community Concern Over Loss of Farmland
OLYMPIA – What will it take for agriculture to thrive in Thurston County? That's what the county sought to find out when they conducted a community-wide survey earlier this year. According to the US Department of Agriculture 2017 census, Thurston County generates $176 million in annual revenues from agriculture—a number that could decrease as the county experiences continued farmland loss.

Planning Commission to Hold Public Hearing on Wireless Communication Facilities Code Update
OLYMPIA – The Thurston County Planning Commission will hold a virtual public hearing on Wednesday, June 2, at 7:00 p.m. or soon thereafter to receive public testimony on the 2020/2021 Development Code Amendment Docket Item A-19. This item is an update to the county's wireless communications facilities regulations to meet federal laws and simplify code language. The Planning Commission will provide a link to attend the meeting a week before the public hearing on the Planning Commission Meeting Materials webpage. The link will be included in the meeting agenda.

First Positive Case of Rabies Found in a Bat in Thurston County
OLYMPIA- Thurston County Public Health & Social Services (PHSS) is reporting the first positive rabies bat in Thurston County, and the second overall in Washington State, this year.
